Rusty Bhuvneshwar India’s only worry: Sunil Gavaskar

In the fourth ODI, India showed that Virat Kohli can fail occasionally and still the team can rack up a massive total. The only worry is Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and he is looking undercooked at the moment. The more he bowls the better it will be.

India played a near perfect game at the Brabourne stadium to go 2-1 up in the Oneday series. But for a couple of dropped catches, it would have been a perfect day for the hosts. What the game showed was that Virat Kohli can also fail occasionally and even without him making his usual hundred-plus contribution, the team can rack up a massive total.

Cricket is not just a game of bat and ball but also a mental one as a batsman is trying to anticipate what a bowler is going to bowl the next ball and the bowler is trying to out-think the batsman too.

So Rohit Sharma, after being bowled by a beauty by the Windies' skipper Jason Holder at Pune, started to step down the pitch to him in order to negate the late swing.
Holder retaliated by banging the ball short or bowling it wide outside the off-stump and Sharma had won the battle there itself. It was no surprise that he then went on to score a big hundred because once the first few overs are done and he starts putting his front foot forward, there is no stopping him in white-ball cricket. The Windies tried the short-ball strategy against Kohli and though he top-edged one close to the deep fine-leg fielder, the bowlers were never going to trouble him by bowling at 130 kmph.
Ambati Rayudu also played magnificently to notch a hundred and cement his place in the team. In the bowling department, Khaleel got the white ball to swing quite nicely but it was the way he got the experienced Samuels that was the highlight. The only worry still is Bhuvneshwar Kumar and he is looking undercooked at the moment. The more he bowls the better it will be.
The Windies will have to pull out all the stops if they are to level the series but the body language at Brabourne doesn’t give much hope of that happening.
